Chicago store employees band together, stop would-be robbers

One employee at a grocery store put his life on the line to stop a robbery.

The struggle went down Sunday night at a grocery store in buck town at 21st and Western.

People who work at the Fresh Market Place in Bucktown are close.

“Everybody treats each other like family, with respect. Everybody gets to know each other here and we've got everybody's back,” said employee Ulises Solis.

That closeness was very apparent last night when two men came in to rob the store around closing time.

"They went right to the cashiers and the girls, they did their job and then when Facundo saw it, one of my employees, he ran after them,” said Fresh Market Place store manager Danny Drossos.

That employee ran right up to the men and put up the fight of his life.

“He's very quiet, very mild mannered, you know, not very outspoken,” Drossos said.

That’s why this came as a surprise to some in the store.

"He saw the girls were in trouble and he was protecting them,” Drossos said.

Fighting as hard as he could, Facundo pushed the robbers out of the store. Seconds later, the rest of the employees come running out to help, including Solis.

Once in the parking lot, they realized something key that helped them catch one of the would-be robbers.

"Once we realized the guns were fake, we chased that guy down and we were able to hold him until the cops got here,” Solis said.

Although store manager Danny Drossos doesn't recommend his employees chase after robbers, he's grateful everyone is ok,

As for why they all came running out...

"I see somebody struggling and I wanted to help, that was my main thing,” Solis said.

They’re a tight knit family willing to fight anyone to keep each other safe.
