Chicagoans head outside in spite of frigid temps

CHICAGO (Fox 32 News) - Many Chicagoans spent part of Saturday outside in spite of the frigid temperatures.

Myra Constantino was at Zoo Lights at the Lincoln Park Zoo. She's from Miami and is in Chciago visiting her son.

"I can actually appreciate Miami weather a lot better," she said.

Billy and Anna Mantagas of New York said they thought they packed the right clothes but forgot something critical.

"We didn't bring anything to cover our faces, and that's what we're struggling with," Anna Mantagas said. "But the more you move and the more pizza you eat, I think you'll make it."

Joao Busnello was out sledding in Grant Park.

"We had to do it," Busnello said. "We wanted to be out in the cold and having fun."

City officials said communication with family and friends is critical in this kind of weather.

"Make sure people know where you're at, and where you're going," said Rich Guidice, managing director of operations at the Office of Emergency Management. "Stay in contact with people."
