City trying to offload Michael Reese hospital site

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The old Michael Reese hospital property could be headed for a new life.

The Bronzeville site has been vacant since before the city bought it in 2009 with plans to turn it into an Olympic Village for the 2016 game. The bid failed and the property has been costing the city money.

Demolition and cleanup cost the city millions.

The city is now asking developers to present proposals for the 49 acre site, located near McCormick Place, the lakefront, and Hyde Park.

The city envisions a mixed use development of homes, businesses and entertainment venues.

A developer could be chosen in 2017.
