Crooked Fox Lake cop allegedly arranged sham marriage for Army son

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - An Illinois police lieutenant who investigators say killed himself out of fear he'd be exposed as an embezzler also allegedly harassed colleagues and arranged a sham marriage so his son could pocket additional military benefits.

Katie Brown is a twice divorced mother of two who had a brief marriage to Donald ‘DJ’ Gliniewicz in a marriage she apparently agreed to in order to help the man she considered her mentor, who was Lt. Joe Gliniewicz.

FOX 32: Katie could you please clarify some of the reports that are out there that you don't believe are accurate?

FOX 32 News caught up with Brown in her driveway to ask her about her sham marriage to Donald Gliniewicz and allegations she was Joe's mistress.

FOX 32: Did you have any kind of relationship with Joe?

Through the window she replied, "absolutely not"

Brown was married to Donald for about a year and a half, and it was dissolved last December.

Brian Grams, whose family owns the Volo Antique Mall, also had a brief marriage to Brown back in 2007. It lasted three months.

“Our marriage in general was obviously a sham right there by itself she thought she was gonna marry me, divorce me and cash out and she made several statements that she's gonna drive my car and gonna be living in my house,” said Grams.

When Grams learned of Browns sham marriage to Gliniewicz, he was shocked.

“It made me physically sick, I went in the bathroom and I threw up,” Grams said.

Grams, who has custody of the couple's daughter, read a text Brown sent him Friday afternoon, with shocking allegations about a police conspiracy to sanction Brown's sham marriage to DJ.

“It’s all a bullshit lie minus the marriage part and it was to help Joe and DJ and three cops sat me in a room, told me it wasn't illegal,” the text read.

Grams said Brown was a longtime friend of Joe Gliniewicz and volunteered at Police Explorer events. He didn't know of any other relationship between them.

But her old neighbors suspected there was and told FOX 32 that they often saw Gliniewicz visit Brown at a house during the middle of the day. They said he'd stay for about an hour and then leave.
