Dog named 'Ice' that was rescued from frozen pond is put up for adoption

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - A dog’s life was celebrated and her rescuers were thanked in a celebration Wednesday afternoon.

The Tinley Park Fire Department rescued a drowning Rottweiler earlier this month from an icy retention pond. And now, that dog is appropriately named 'Ice.'

Cellphone video captured the rescue as three firefighters paddled towards the dog that was trapped for nearly 30 minutes.

“She ran out on the pond and the ice broke through in the middle and she went under,” said Frank Larocca. He and his family first saw the dog wandering around and called 911.

'Ice' was pulled to safety and suffered from hypothermia, but now she's doing well.

The 3-year-old Rottweiler showed off her training and creative side with a little thank you painting to each of those who saved her life.

“Everything went smooth, the guys did a great job - couldn't have been happier with the turnout,” said Lieutenant Dan Mazziotta of the Tinley Park Fire Department.

Starting Thursday, 'Ice' will be up for adoption. P.A.W.S. Tinley Park will accept applications for 5 days and then pick the perfect family.

'Ice' does have a microchip, but the shelter employees couldn't find her current owner.

The P.A.W.S. employees believe she will be in a forever home in about ten days, and they’ve already had more than 100 people inquire about adopting her.
