Donald Trump and Ivanka visit Chicago area, raise more than $2M in campaign cash

FOX 32 NEWS - Two Trumps raised more than $2 million in campaign cash from Chicago-area contributors Wednesday.

Donald Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, made a series of separate appearances.

Illinois’ Republican chairman was ebullient Wednesday night after hobnobbing with two Trumps as they raised more than $2 million.

“I never thought I'd see this type of excitement we saw in Chicago and Bolingbrook today. It was amazing!” Timothy Schneider said.

Addressing a crowd on the Northwest Side at the Polish National Alliance, one of Chicago's premiere immigrant-built organizations, the Republican nominee said the only immigrants he wants to stop are those entering the U.S. illegally or those who could be terrorists.

"We want our independence back, we want our freedom back, we don't want to take people into our country that we don't want. We don't want to take people into our country that possibly have very bad intentions,” Trump said.

Trump stayed out of sight at his next stop at a fundraiser at the Bolingbrook golf club in the South Suburbs.

Among the several hundred writing big checks to dine with Trump and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani were some members of the Ricketts Family, who are the owners of the Chicago Cubs.

Outside, competing pro-Trump and anti-Trump demonstrators held a high-decibel debate.

Former Bears Coach Mike Ditka and others Republican contributors went to another fundraiser on swanky East Lake Shore Drive Wednesday evening, featuring the candidate's daughter, Ivanka Trump.

“Because he says what I'm thinking, even though I might not be saying it,” a woman said.

While speaking to Polish-Americans in Chicago, Trump also pledged that if elected he would work with Poland to strengthen NATO.

Trump praised Poland for paying its fair share to collective defense under NATO.

Trump had been criticized earlier in the campaign for describing NATO as obsolete and questioning the U.S. commitment to the alliance. But Trump says he's helping NATO by putting pressure on it to focus on terrorism.

Trump also touched on other campaign themes, promising he'll be the "greatest president for jobs that God ever created."
