Elgin woman says secret to longevity is Portillo's

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Elgin resident Helen Diekman passed away last week, less than three weeks after turning 100 years old.

But Chicagoans will be pleased to hear what Diekman recently credited her long, full life to.

Before she died, Diekman told a local news publication that the secret to her long life was eating Portillo's. Last year, she told the Daily Herald that she kept a photo of herself and the restaurant's founder next to her bed. She said after taking the photo in 2013, she stopped in for lunch about three times per week.

And you may be curious what her favorite order is - a hot dog with everything except hot peppers, fries and a Diet Coke.

Deikman also told the Daily Herald that she goes to bed early, eats well, and goes to church.

By the way, Diekman celebrated her 99th birthday at Portillo's.
