Explosion, ammonia leak reported in Elk Grove Village
SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - An explosion and ammonia leak were reported Friday morning at an industrial park in northwest suburban Elk Grove Village.
The explosion happened shortly after 7 a.m. near Tonne Road and Touhy Avenue, according to Elk Grove Village police.
There was also an ammonia leak, which was contained to a single building, and authorities were closing streets in the area, according to police and a Facebook post from the village.
Tonne was closed between Landmeier Road and Touhy, according to the village. Chase Avenue and Touhy were also closed between Tonne and Lively Boulevard.
All closed streets were re-opened by Friday evening, the Elk Grove Village Fire Department said. No serious injuries were reported.
A Facebook post by nearby Midwest Moving & Storage read: “The Midwest Moving and Storage team is currently working remotely… We were evacuated from our building this AM due to an explosion, ammonia leak, and water rupture at our neighbors, Grecian Delight Foods.”
Grecian Delight is a “manufacturer of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine to foodservice and retail operators,” according to its website.
