Cops: Man charged with shooting at police threw feces at deputy

Taylor James Cano | Kendall County sheriff's office

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A man charged with firing a rifle at Oswego police last year is facing additional charges for allegedly throwing feces at a deputy during a fight Wednesday evening at the Kendall County Jail.

Taylor James Cano, 26, was involved in a fight with a deputy at 6:34 p.m. Tuesday at the jail at 1102 Cornell Lane in Yorkville, according to the Kendall County sheriff’s office. During the fight, Cano allegedly threw feces at and battered the deputy.

Cano, of the 300 block of South Fordham Avenue in Aurora, was charged with a Class 2 felony count of aggravated battery to a peace officer, the sheriff’s office said. He remains in custody at the jail.

Cano was previously charged with attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon after he allegedly fired a rifle at Oswego police officers, according to Oswego police.

He had called police about 12:16 a.m. Aug. 29, 2015, and told them there would be a “massacre” in the suburb, claiming he had a rifle and was going to shoot people at a house party nearby, police said. When officers arrived, they saw him walking toward the party in the 0-100 block of Ashlawn Avenue armed with a rifle.

Cano fired one round toward the officers and they returned fire, police said. He was shot in the torso and was aken to a hospital, where he remained until he was released into police custody Sept. 17.

Investigators later determined Cano believed a motorcycle gang had surrounded his house, that he was going to die that night, and that he wanted to draw attention to his death by shooting people at the party, police said. There was no indication Cano knew anyone at the party, or that he’d had prior interactions with them.
