CHICAGO (STMW) - A firefighter was injured as the Chicago Fire Department battled a two-alarm blaze at an auto body shop Tuesday morning in the South Side Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood for over two hours.
A Level 1 HazMat alert was also called for the Aero Auto shop in the 200 block of West 65th Street near the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to Fire Media.
A firefighter suffered a minor injury battling the smoky blaze, which apparently started while an employee was working on a vehicle with a cutting torch, Fire Media said.
The fire was reported about 8:19 a.m. and a second alarm was called at 8:36 a.m., bringing about 140 firefighters and 38 pieces of equipment to the scene.
Most of the roof of the building had collapsed as of 10:15 a.m. The fire was put out about 10:45 p.m.
