Five displaced in New Year's Day fire in Greater Grand Crossing

CHICAGO (STMW) - Five people were displaced from their Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood home after a fire on New Year’s Day on the South Side.

Firefighters responded to a fully involved fire at a one-and-a-half story home in the 7700 block of South Maryland about 1 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.

The fire was extinguished by 2:25 p.m., according to fire media. ComEd was notified of live wires down on the north side of the building.

No injuries were reported, according to fire media. Three adults and two children were displaced from the home, and human services was called to assist them.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
