Gas odor prompts evacuation of Northwest Side school
CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - A possible gas leak prompted the evacuation of a school Thursday morning in the Northwest Side Dunning neighborhood.
O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy at 6024 W. Warwick Ave. was evacuated after staff noticed a potential gas odor in the building before school started, according to a Chicago Public Schools spokesman. The school was evacuated before classes began as a precaution.
Students who had already been dropped off were taken by bus to Smyser Elementary School. No one required medical attention.
Parents were notified of the odor and the evacuation by robocall.
