15-minute delays for Metra Electric riders as CPD investigation continues

CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - Metra commuters traversing the Far South Side were facing delays Tuesday morning, as Chicago police continued investigating the scene where two officers were killed by a passing train while chasing down a gunman.
Starting at the 115th Street-Kensington station, Metra Electric District Line trains could incur 15-minute delays in both directions, according to the transit agency’s website. Trains were not stopping at the 103rd Street station earlier in the morning, but service at the station resumed by about 8:30 a.m.
The CTA would accept Metra tickets at Red Line stations from Lake Street to 95th Street as well as at bus stops for the No. 115 and 119 lines, Metra said.
South Shore Line trains were also back up, but with delays from 10 to 15 minutes, according to an alert. Those holdups should be expected throughout rush hour.
At 6:20 p.m. Monday, two Chicago police officers chasing an armed suspect on foot were struck by the Shore Shore Line’s eastbound train No. 119, according to Metra spokeswoman Sylvia Cooper. The officers were pronounced dead at the scene.
Service for both Metra and Shore Shore Line trains was shut down Monday evening as police investigated.
