'Irish frat house' unsettles neighbors in Logan Square

CHICAGO (FOX 32 NEWS) - Residents of the Logan Square neighborhood will finally be able to get some sleep tonight after the city shut down a building neighbors called the "Irish frat house."

For the last two summers men, believed to be members of an amateur Irish rugby team, turned a Logan Square two flat into a neighborhood ear and eyesore.

"This is the second summer these kids have been here. After the first we were like 'well maybe they'll never come back.' and they came back twice as partying hard," neighbor Diana Bowden said.

It all came to a crashing crescendo in the early hours of thursday morning. Cellphone video taken by a neighbor shows the men breaking windows and destroying furniture.

By Friday the men were gone... But the evidence remains.

"We were going to bed and heard it and thought people were smashing car windows. But they were destroying their house,” Bowden said.

A North Shore developer bought this property about a year ago. He was planning to tear it down and replace it with row homes, but in the meantime he was renting it out.

The developer told DNAinfo he tried to control the men but they wouldn't listen, and he didn't have enough time to evict them.

City inspectors are now assessing the damage and neighbors are looking forward to finally getting a good night's sleep.
