CHICAGO (FOX 32 News/ STMW) - If you are heading outside this morning, you might want to give yourself plenty of extra time to get to where you need to be!

Light snowfall throughout the Chicago area could impact Tuesday’s morning commute.

Light snow showers began overnight and were expected to last until at least the early afternoon before they taper off from west to east, according to the National Weather Service.

Occasional more moderate showers could produce “brief but sharp reductions in visibility” and slight accumulation on roadways, the weather service said. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time.

The city’s Department of Streets and Sanitation deployed nearly 200 snow plows and salt spreaders to clear Lake Shore Drive and arterial streets Monday night ahead of the morning rush, the department said in a statement.

FOX 32's Lisa Chavarria took to the streets Tuesday morning to monitor road conditions throughout the area. Check it out in the video above.
