McCarthy 'listening tour' report called for better police-community relations

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Former police superintendent Garry McCarthy went on a highly-publicized listening tour in several Chicago neighborhoods last summer.

But the report was never made public because it wasn't finalized before McCarthy was fired.

DNAinfo.com Chicago obtained a copy of the draft report. In it, McCarthy said improving police-community relations was a high priority.

It also focused heavily on improving transparency and the need to preserve the public's trust.

McCarthy said the police department had failed to communicate quickly enough with the public and media.

McCarthy was fired December 1 after Mayor Rahm Emanuel said McCarthy had lost the public's trust in the wake of the Laquan McDonald dashcam video.
