More renovations coming to Wrigley Field

More changes are in store for one Chicago’s most iconic landmarks.

Wrigley Field has already received a major facelift over the last few years. But fans will see more renovations by opening day next year.

When the Cubs season ends, construction season begins.

The five-year, $750 million Wrigley renovation project has already produced the Park at Wrigley, an expansion of the bleachers and a beautiful new façade.

But that's just the start.

"Not only making the investment to make sure this ball park will be here for the next 100 years, but it will still have the feel of Wrigley Field tradition when the ball park was first erected 100 years ago,” said Cubs spokesman Julian Green.

Among the changes Cubs fans can expect to see next year are new concession stands down the right and left field concourses.

The dugouts will also be moved about 20 feet further down the lines and expanded, as work begins on new luxury clubs under the seats behind first and third base that will open in 2019.

The new American Airlines 1914 Club will open in a large bunker that's already been built under the infield for fans willing to spend up to $400 for premium seating, food and drinks.

So how are fans going to get to that swanky new club under the infield? They'll go down the steps right behind home plate.

Also expected to be ready for opening day next year is the Hotel Zachary, owned by the Cubs on the other side of Clark Street from Wrigley Field.

"Six story, 175 rooms. And the progress on the hotel has been amazing. A lot of the tenants have started work. McDonald's and several new restaurant concepts will be unveiled next year,” Green said.

The Cubs are also continuing a long-term project of replacing a lot of the concrete in seats.
