No injuries but fire forces closure of Naperville restaurant

No one was injured but an Indian restaurant in west suburban Naperville remains closed after a fire in the kitchen Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 1 p.m., the firefighters were dispatched after a 911 caller reported smoke coming from the roof of a one-story restaurant in a strip mall in the 100 block of East Ogden, according to a statement from the Naperville Fire Department. The Star of India restaurant is located at that address.

The first crews on the scene “reported light smoke exiting the roof through kitchen’s ventilation system,” according to the fire department.

All occupants were evacuated from the building and used a fire hose to put out the “small kitchen fire,” the department said. It only too about 10 minutes to completely extinguish the blaze.

The  roof and ventilation system for hidden fires and smoke was forced out of the building.

No injuries were reported and the “extent of the damage is minor in nature,” the department said, but the restaurant will remain closed until it is inspected by the DuPage County Health Department.

The cause remains under investigation.
