Off-duty CPD officer shoots family member in domestic dispute

CHICAGO (STMW) - An off-duty Chicago Police officer shot a man she lives with inside their Dunning neighborhood home Sunday morning on the Northwest Side.

Emergency crews responded at 10:37 a.m. to the shooting in the 3800 block of North Octavia, police said.

The officer, a 47-year-old woman, shot the 52-year-old family member in the right shoulder when he approached her with a knife during a domestic dispute, police said.

He was taken in good condition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, police said.

The wounded man, who is not a police officer, was in custody with charges pending against him Sunday afternoon, police said.

The Independent Police Review Authority, which investigate all police-involved shootings, is handling the case, agency spokesman Larry Merritt said.
