BATAVIA, Ill. (STMW) - Batavia police are searching for a man who shot a pizza delivery driver in the head with a pellet gun during an attempted robbery late Wednesday in the western suburb.

The 51-year-old driver was making a delivery about 10:20 p.m. in the 300 block of Woodland Hills Road when someone grabbed him from behind, according to Batavia police.

During the struggle, the driver was shot with a compressed air pellet gun, police said. He was taken to a hospital with a scalp wound, scrapes and bruises, and was released later that night, police said.

It wasn’t clear if the attacker made off with anything, police said. He is described as a 6-foot-3, medium-build black man wearing dark clothing and a ski mask. He took off in an older model Jeep Cherokee and went south on Woodland Hills Road, police said.
