Police: 1 killed in collision between postal truck, SUV

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - One person was killed when U.S. Postal Service truck collided with an SUV early Saturday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The crash happened about 3:20 a.m. in the 3800 block of West Congress when the SUV failed to stop at a red light and collided with the truck, according to Chicago Police.

A male passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Both drivers were taken to Stroger Hospital, where the SUV’s driver was listed in critical condition and the truck driver’s condition was stabilized.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office was not immediately able to confirm the death. CPD’s Major Accident Investigation Unit is handling the case.
