A man was killed in a head-on crash Monday night on Interstate 57 near south suburban Country Club Hills, according to Illinois State Police.

About 8:15 p.m., the man was driving south on I-57 near Flossmoor Road, when for unknown reasons he crossed the center median and his car struck a northbound vehicle head-on, according to Illinois State Police.

The man, thought to be in his 60s, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately have information on the death.

Two people in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, police said. A van that was also driving in the northbound lanes tried to veer out of the way, but side-swiped the crash. No one in the van was injured.

Northbound traffic was diverted off the expressway at Vollmer Road until about midnight, police said. As of early Tuesday, no citations or charges had been issued in connection with the crash.
