Riverside police chief named chairperson of state DUI task force

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - The chief of police for west suburban Riverside was recently named chairperson of the Illinois Impaired Driving Task Force.

Police Chief Tom Weitzel will be the first chairperson of the newly created committee, according to a statement from Riverside police. The committee is tasked with reviewing current state laws, examining the treatment and monitoring of offenders and educating the public about impaired driving.

The goal of the task force is to find ways to prevent drunk and drugged driving and to eliminate DUIs in Illinois, according to the statement. Weitzel said he hoped to bring collaboration between public and private organizations to bring awareness and new strategies to confront impaired driving.
