Riverside police implement new lost dog Twitter policy

RIVERSIDE, Ill. (STMW) - Lost or abandoned dogs located in west suburban Riverside can now be found on Twitter.

Officers will use the Riverside Police Department Twitter account to send out photos of lost or abandoned dogs they may come in contact with while on duty, according to a statement from Riverside police.

The officers will take post a photo of the dog along with the time and location of where the dog was found to the @pdriverside Twitter account, police said. The tweet will also detail how to recover the dog or how to reunite it with its owner.

Dogs will be held for 10 days at the Countryside Veterinarian Center as police look for the owners, according to police. After 10 days, the dogs will be put up for adoption.

Police hope that tweeting photos of the dogs will speed up the process of reuniting them with their owners, according to the statement.
