CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -- The last weekend before the Christmas holiday proved to be a busy one at stores, malls and holiday fairs.

Thousands headed downtown to walk the Magnificent Mile and hit the department stores where deals could be found in almost every store and the crowds pounced.

“Very, very busy this is the busiest it's been and I was just came down here about a week ago and it was empty,” said Brianna Banks who was out shopping with her family.

Others stayed local Saturday and headed to holiday markets.

The Africa International House hosted a pre Kwanzaa celebration and holiday market at the Harriet Harris Park in the city’s Woodlawn neighborhood.

“It's more personal one on one I love to do the one-on-one shopping,” said Rita Young. “There are vendors that I have known that I shop with.”

“You are supporting the black economy in Chicago, promoting people who make things with their hands, promoting the black culture,” said Patrick Woodtor.
