Suspicious item found in suburban trick-or-treat bag

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - Authorities are investigating whether a suspicious item found in a child’s trick-or-treat bag Sunday in north suburban Beach Park was put there intentionally.

The family reported that a device used to prick fingers, commonly used to test blood sugar levels, was found in the child’s trick-or-treat bag in the Cambridge subdivision in Beach Park, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Detectives canvassed several homes the family had visited during their trick-or-treating and are investigating whether or not it was intentional.

No other suspicious incidents have been reported, according to the sheriff’s office.

The village of Beach Park issued a recorded phone messages to homes in the subdivision reminding parents to inspect their children’s trick-or-treat bags.
