West Chicago High School teachers avoid strike

UPDATE: A tentative agreement has been reached to avoid a strike. Details to follow.

West Chicago High School teachers may end up on the picket line Friday if a deal is not reached between the District 94 Board of Education and the teachers’ union.

Talks continued into the night Thursday at the downtown West Chicago district offices, while teachers prepped at the high school for a possible Friday strike.

The decision will impact 2,100 students that attend the high school, which serves West Chicago, Winfield and Carol Stream.

Teachers have been working without a full contract since the start of the school year. This is the second time this week they two parties have tried to reach an agreement.

The battle is over many items including retirement, healthcare and teacher pay. The union is asking for a sixteen percent raise over the next four years and the school board offered twelve percent last month.

If there is a strike on Friday parents and guardians will be notified via email and a phone call.
