Woman, 24, dies after falling in Chicago River in Loop

A 24-year-old woman died Saturday after falling in the Chicago River in the Loop on Friday.

Dominique Flewellen, of the 900 block of Oak Creek Drive in Lombard, was observed in the river about 6 p.m. at 350 W. Van Buren, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Kevin Quaid.

She was rescued by officers from the police Marine Unit and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:35 a.m., the medical examiner’s office and Quaid said.

The “circumstances as to how she fell in are unknown,” Quaid said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
