Woman fatally struck by trolley in Loop identified

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A 42-year-old woman who was fatally struck by a trolley car Saturday morning in the Loop has been identified.

Hiromi Hosono was struck by the trolley while walking in a crosswalk at Michigan Avenue and Monroe Street at 10:25 a.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Hosono, of Ithaca, New York, was pronounced dead at the scene a few minutes later, according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy found she died of multiple blunt force injuries and her death was ruled an accident.

The 49-year-old woman driving the trolley was issued a citation for striking a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said.
