GLENVIEW, Ill. (STMW) - A 69-year-old woman was rescued Tuesday afternoon after she spent several days trapped in the bathroom of a home in north suburban Glenview.

The woman was house-sitting for a relative, who became nervous when they couldn’t reach her by phone, Glenview Police Sgt. James Foley said.

The homeowner called AT&T to have then check the phone line, and when the worker arrived at the home in the 700 block of Beaver Road in Glenview, he knocked on the door and heard yelling, Foley said.

The worker was able to open the mail slot in the door and communicate with the woman, Foley said. Police believe the woman fell in the shower in the bathroom, and was unable to get up.

Police and firefighers arrived at the home and broke a small window to get inside to rescue the woman, Foley said.

She was conscious and talking, and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge to get checked out, Foley said. She did not have any visible injuries.

The woman told police she had been stuck in the bathroom for five days, but investigators have not yet been able to confirm that, Foley said.
