Bus driver stops to help two lost children

MILWAUKEE (FOX 32 Chicago) Instead of driving by, a Milwaukee bus driver decided to stop her bus and get involved when she saw something that troubled her.

Jeannie Mitchell was on her new route on Oct. 12 when she spotted a girl, 5, and a boy, 1, wandering aimlessly near Hopkins and Hampton. The bus' surveillance video shows that she pulled over and started asking questions.

She brought the kids on to the bus and called Milwaukee Police, who helped the children contact their mother. It turned out that they had walked away from their babysitter and were looking for a relatives house.

Mitchell said that when her son was five, he vanished for about 12 hours. She's never forgotten the pain and fear, and she wanted to spare other parents the same misery.

"If the parent hadn't shown up, I would still be thinking, 'What happened to those children?' But once the police showed up and did their part, I felt a lot better," she said.
