Amazon offers refunds to customers who may have purchased counterfeit eclipse glasses

How do you know your solar eclipse glasses are safe?

THE UNIVERSE (Fox 32 News) - Amazon is cracking down on dangerous counterfeit solar eclipse glasses.

Amazon said Sunday it has removed glasses that might offer adequate protection from the sun's rays. They are offering refunds to customers who might have purchased dangerous glasses.

How do you know your eclipse glasses are safe? Look for the ISO 12312-2 (sometimes written as ISO 12312-2:2015) international safety standard marker. Filters that are ISO 12312-2 compliant not only reduce visible sunlight to safe and comfortable levels but also block solar UV and IR radiation.

If the filters are torn, scratched or punctured, throw them away. If the filters are coming loose from the frame, chuck them out.

The American Astronomical Society has published a list of authorized solar eclipse glasses, which you can find here.

You can also get glasses for free at some libraries. Click here to find a library near you.
