Police: 3 killed, 37 wounded in Chicago weekend shootings

Three men were killed and at least 37 other people — including two young children — were injured in shootings across Chicago since Friday night.

The most recent fatal attack happened early Sunday in a West Pullman alley on the Far South Side.

A 20-year-old man was discovered unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds at 5 a.m. in the 11700 block of South LaSalle, according to Chicago Police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but could not release his name Sunday morning because family had not yet been notified.

Less than two hours earlier, a man died and another was critically wounded in a lakefront shooting in the Oakland neighborhood on the South Side.

The men, ages 21 and 31, were sitting on the lakefront near 43rd Street about 3:15 a.m. when two gunmen walked up and started shooting, police said.

The 21-year-old was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 9:55 a.m., authorities said. His name was withheld Sunday night.

The older man was shot four times in the abdomen and once in the arm and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was still listed in critical condition late Sunday.

The weekend’s third homicide victim was one of five people shot at a house party early Sunday in the West Side Austin neighborhood, police said.

Two gunmen walked up to a house party in the 4800 block of West Kamerling about 1 a.m. and fired shots into the crowd outside, police said.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not confirm the fatality Sunday morning.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the back and chest and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. A 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and was also taken to Sinai, where his condition was stabilized.

Another man, 19, was shot in the thigh, but hospital information was not available, police said. Also, a 24-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the arm and was treated and released at the scene.

Two young children were wounded in shootings within minutes of each other Sunday evening.

At 8:40 p.m., a 6-year-old girl was shot in West Englewood. She was outside about 8:40 p.m. while two people were fighting in the 5600 block of South Bishop when one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said.

A bullet struck her leg and she was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in serious condition. She wasn’t the intended target, police said.

The shooter took off in a white SUV, police said.

At 8:47 p.m., a 7-year-old boy was wounded in a gang-related Northwest Side shooting along with a 19-year-old man in Belmont Cragin.

They were in a car in the 2500 block of North Parkside when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said.

The boy was shot in the shoulder and the man was grazed in the head. The man drove them to Community First Medical Center, where their conditions stabilized, police said.

The most recent non-fatal attack happened early Monday in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

A 17-year-old boy was walking down the street in the 6300 block of South Bell at 1:40 a.m. when someone walked up and fired shots, police said.

He was shot in the leg and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

Police said the teen is a documented gang member.

At least 28 other people have been shot across the city since since 11 p.m. Friday.
