Gov. Rauner gives $1M to GOP comptroller candidate

- Gov. Bruce Rauner has given $1 million of his own money to Republican incumbent Leslie Munger's bid for Illinois comptroller.

State records this week show the contribution that came from the former venture capitalist and his wife, Diana Rauner.

Rauner appointed Munger to the post last year after Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka's death. Tuesday's special election determines who finishes the term.

The four-way race has already seen massive fundraising, largely from a Rauner campaign fund and businessmen who support Rauner.

Since 2015's start, Munger has raised more than $10 million, including $2 million from shipping executive Richard Uihlein and $5 million from Citadel CEO Ken Griffin.

Democratic Chicago City Clerk Susana Mendoza raised about $3.5 million in the same time period.

Libertarian Claire Ball and Green Party candidate Tim Curtin are also running.
