Blackhawks star Patrick Kane claims NHL scoring title

- Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane became the first American-born player to lead the league in scoring on Sunday, scoring a career-high 106 points.

Kane was awarded the 2016 Art Ross Trophy on Sunday, becoming the first Blackhawks player to win the award since Stan Mikita in 1968.

Kane recorded career-highs with 46 goals and 60 assists across 82 games.

“It is an honor being the first American to win the scoring title as there have been so many great hockey players from the United States in the NHL,” Kane said in a press release. “I take a lot of pride in that, but I also take a lot of pride in doing it with the Chicago Blackhawks. I owe a lot to my teammates, coaches and the organization as I couldn’t have done this without them. This has been a special season, but we still have a lot to accomplish as a team and I look forward to another long run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.”

The Blackhawks will open the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
