Cubs hire Jared Porter as pro scouting director

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have hired Jared Porter as their director of pro scouting/special assistant.

Porter knows Cubs management well, having spent 12 season with the Boston Red Sox - the last four as their director of pro scouting. President of baseball operations Theo Epstein was Boston's general manager before coming to Chicago in October 2011, and GM Jed Hoyer worked in Boston's front office.

The Cubs also announced Wednesday that Joe Bohringer, who held the position for four years, will remain with the organization in a scouting role.
