Madigan warns of potential Cubs ticket scams

CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is warning consumers to be on the lookout for potential scams when buying tickets to Chicago Cubs World Series games.
Madigan encouraged fans to buy tickets through reputable sellers or registered ticket brokers and to take caution when buying from third-party sellers online, according to a statement from the attorney general’s office.
“Cubs fans have been waiting a lifetime to see their team play in the World Series, but don’t let the quest to ‘Fly the W’ let you fall victim to an expensive scam,” Madigan said in a statement.
Madigan warned shoppers not to buy tickets from private parties, including offers posted to Craigslist or other online message boards and social media platforms, the attorney general’s office said. They should also only deal with sellers who accept credit cards and avoid paying cash or wiring money to sellers for any reason.
Consumers are also encouraged to investigate online sellers and ticket brokers by checking to see whether they are members if the National Association of Ticket Brokers or the Better Business Bureau.
Anyone who believes they might have been affected by a ticket scam should file a complaint on Madigan’s website or call the Consumer Fraud Hotline at (800) 386-5438.
