So far this year, highest price paid for a Cubs World Series ticket is $15k

FOX 32 NEWS - So you want to see a World Series game at Wrigley Field? Here’s some advice - get a second mortgage or raid the kids' college fund.

FOX 32's Dane Placko reports that ticket prices could set a record if the Cubs make it that far, but prices for the first round of playoffs starting Friday are coming back down to Earth.

Ticket broker Steve Buzil is a pretty popular guy right now, fielding calls from cubs fans literally all over the world.

"I got one from Germany the other day, I did. I got one from Australia. This is good stuff,” Buzil said.

For Cubs fans, looking to score a seat to the playoffs is a good news/bad news story.

The good? So many fans are focused on the World Series that ticket prices for the first round of playoffs are down compared to last year.
"On Stubhub right now, for the divisional round, you can get into the game for about 140-dollars right now for Friday and Saturday. There's still plenty of tickets left as well,” said Jeff Doden of Stubhub.

And now the bad news.

"World Series, we're predicting probably some of the highest prices we've ever seen for major league baseball on Stubhub,” Doden added.

Just take a look at Stubhub's interactive map for game one of the World Series - standing room only is starting at 18-hundred dollars, and tickets in the club boxes well over ten thousand bucks apiece.

And with demand for tickets so high, there's another game you should watch out for here around the ballpark - the con game.

"I guarantee you every game there will be counterfeits,” said Steve Bernas of the Better Business Bureau.

Bernas says new printing technology and the wild-wild web are making it easier for scammers to sell fake tickets. He recommends you only buy from the Cubs or licensed ticket brokers.

"If you buy something from Craigslist, it's like buying something from somebody who pulls up in a car and going down a dark alley. You don't know who these people are or whether these tickets are valid,” Bernas said.

Meanwhile, Buzil's phone just keeps ringing.

"I'm also getting these people that are 80 and 90 years old. Their kids and grandkids are calling me, saying 'listen, he's 90 years old, 80 years old, this is it. I gotta bring him to the game!'” Buzil said.

According to Stubhub, the highest price paid for a Cubs World Series ticket so far is 15-thousand dollars.

And all of that gets refunded if the Cubs don't make it that far.
