Red Line construction, concerts to impact weekend CTA service

- The CTA has announced multiple service changes for this weekend, including Red Line trains bypassing several North Side stations because of construction and additional bus service for events across the city.

Between 11 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Monday, northbound Red Line trains will run express between the Sheridan and Howard stations, according to a statement from CTA. All southbound Red Line train service will continue as normal.

Howard-bound riders getting on at the Wilson, Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, Granville, Loyola, Morse or Jarvis stations will need to take a southbound train to Sheridan and then transfer to a Howard-bound train, the CTA said. Riders wishing to exit at those stations will need to take a northbound train to Howard and transfer to a southbound train.

The weekend Red Line construction is part of the Wilson Station Reconstruction Project, the CTA said.

Additional bus service will also be provided for the Billy Joel and Luke Bryan concerts at Wrigley Field, the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour and Bruce Springsteen concerts at the United Center and the Bears pre-season game at Soldier Field, the CTA said.

Additional No. 80 Irving Park and No. 152 Addison buses will be provided two hours before and one hour after concerts at Wrigley Field, the CTA said. The Billy Joel concert starts at 8 p.m. Friday and the Luke Bryan concert starts at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The No. 128 Soldier Field Express bus will run between Union Station, Ogilvie and Soldier Field for two hours before and one hour after the Bears game at noon Saturday, the CTA said. Additional service for the No. 146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express will also be provided two hours before and one hour after the game.

The No. 19 United Center Express buses will begin leaving from Michigan and Randolph at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and Thursday and run for an hour after the Bruce Springsteen and Bad Boy concerts, the CTA said. Buses will pick customers up on the north side of the United Center on Madison near Gate 3.
