CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Several lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway will close overnight Monday and Tuesday for work on the 63rd Street bridge reconstruction.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, the left lane of the inbound express lanes will be closed at 63rd Street, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. A second lane will close at 11 p.m. The left lane of the southbound express lanes will close at 9 p.m. Monday, and a second lane will close at 11 p.m.
All northbound express lanes will be closed between midnight and 5 a.m. Tuesday, and all southbound express lanes will be closed between 1-5 a.m. Tuesday.
All lanes will be reopened by 6 a.m. Tuesday, in time for the morning commute.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday, the right lane of the northbound local lanes will be closed, with a second lane closing at 10 p.m. The 71st Street entrance ramp will also close at 10 p.m.
All lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday.
The closures are necessary to reconfigure the work zone for the 63rd Street bridge reconstruction, according to IDOT. Drivers should expect delays and allow extra time for trips through the area.
