CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The Chicago Transit Board awarded a contract Wednesday to build 800 new rail cars.

The new cars will be made in Chicago, and the mayor's office says that means new jobs. About 170 jobs are expected to be created.

Many of the cars on the tracks now are more than 30-years-old.

The new cars will have a different seat design.

They'll go into service in 2020.
