CTA promises not to raise fares in 2016, but needs help from state

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The Chicago Transit Authority is promising not to raise fares, but says they need some help from the state of Illinois. 

The CTA has unveiled a $1.47 billion budget for 2016 which includes adding two new rush-hour express routes.

But a lot of it depends on state funding, which is still tied up due to Springfield's inability to agree to a budget. The state still owes the CTA $221 million for 2015

Illinois has been operating without a budget since July 1.
