South Loop gas leak ties up CTA trains

CTA trains were briefly halted near the South Loop during the Tuesday evening rush as crews fixed a ruptured gas line, authorities said.

A second alarm was called about 4 p.m. for a hazardous materials response in the 800 block of South State Street, where a 4-inch gas line was leaking, according to the Chicago Fire Department. State was shut down between 8th Street and Roosevelt.

Red, Orange and Green line trains were halted near Roosevelt were suspended until about 5 p.m., according to the CTA.

Trains were back on the move with significant delays that were affecting Brown, Pink and Purple line trains as well.
