TINLEY PARK (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A man was struck and killed by a Metra train during the Tuesday evening rush in southwest suburban Tinley Park.
The man, thought be in his 30s, was hit by Rock Island District outbound Train 413 at 5:25 p.m. near the Tinley Park/80th Avenue station, according to the transit agency.
He was dead at the scene, officials said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the death.
Trains were still stopped near the collision as of 6:15 p.m. Delays were expected to be “extensive” for inbound and outbound trains through the night, officials said.
Metra police were being assisted by Tinley Park police with the investigation.
