Police: Woman killed in Dan Ryan crash

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A 29-year-old woman was killed early Monday when her SUV crashed into a concrete barrier and pole on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the South Side, police said.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 1:40 a.m. in the inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan near 87th Street, according to Illinois State Police.

The woman was pinned in the vehicle and extricated before being taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where she died less than an hour later, state police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the fatality.

All expressway lanes were closed near the crash until about 2:30 a.m. as crews cleared the scene. The cause of the crash is is under investigation.
