Red Line trains to bypass North Side stations this weekend

CHICAGO (STMW) - Northbound CTA Red Line trains will bypass several North Side stations this weekend as crews continue track construction for the Purple Express Improvement Project.

Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Howard-bound Red Line trains will run express between Berwyn and Howard, bypassing the Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, Granville, Loyola, Morse and Jarvis stations, the CTA said in a statement. The bypass will last until 4 a.m. Monday.

Southbound trains will continue to serve all stations throughout the weekend, according to the CTA.

Howard-bound customers at Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, Granville, Loyola, Morse or Jarvis will have to take a southbound train to Berwyn and then transfer to a northbound train, the CTA said.  Howard-bound customers who wish to exit at the bypassed stations will need to take the train to Howard and then switch to a southbound train.

The construction project,  intended to provide smoother, faster and more reliable Purple Line Express service, is expected to be completed this fall.
