Gov. JB Pritzker signed a new law aimed at helping eligible Illinois homeowners recover from flood damage, following devastating storms and flooding in 2025 that left some families without federal disaster assistance.
CHICAGO - Gov. JB Pritzker signed legislation Friday aimed at providing financial relief to eligible Illinois homeowners who have faced costly flood damage.
The new law allows participating home equity assurance programs to establish a temporary flood rebate program. Eligible homeowners could receive a one-time rebate covering up to 50% of qualifying flood-related expenses, with a maximum payment of $1,000.
The legislation follows severe storms and flooding in 2025 that caused significant damage in parts of Chicago, particularly on the Southwest Side.
