CPD, CFD facing off in boxing event for charity

When can you punch the police and not get in tossed in jail? When you're a Chicago firefighter.

The two departments are getting ready to face off in a boxing event for charity.

At a west side gym, Chicago firefighter Mike O'Sullivan is helping coach the boxers for the Chicago Fire Department, getting them ready to fight the police department in a boxing match to raise money for police and fire charities.

“A fireman and a cop punching each other in the face. It's a pretty good time,” O’Sullivan said.

Police sparring on the south side at Leo High School have their own powerful motivators.

“It was instilled in us, their sacrifice, their hard work, so growing up I was like man, I want to be a police officer,” said Officer Levon London.

You can see them fight it out Friday night at the “Battle of the Badges” at the De La Salle Institute at 35th and Michigan.
