The Reverend Jesse Jackson and Rainbow PUSH on Tuesday night said it’s great that students at Homewood-Flossmoor took a stand against racial injustice by walking out of class.

Parents and students are also invited to Rainbow PUSH this Saturday to help students organize and make the Homewood-Flossmoor community a model for the nation.

The two videos have upset people of all colors in the south suburb and beyond. So much so, that students of all races at Homewood-Flossmoor walked out of class, to show they want the racism to end.

“I feel like that if everybody got together and they tried to help stop racism, we can all do it, you know, it’s just, we all get together,” said Christian Haywood.

21-year-old Haywood is a Homewood-Flossmoor graduate.

“I was astonished. I didn’t know what to do,” said Haywood.

While this was going on at his alma mater, he too became a target, just driving down the street, as the driver of a white pickup truck called him the n-word in Flossmoor.

“The car that was in front of him made a wide turn, so I made a wide turn and I had my windows down, so that’s all I heard out the window, 'move out the way, n*****,'” said Haywood.

Haywood captured the exchange on video and posted it to social media which has been shared over and over, getting comments like, "this is terribly disgusting. What is wrong with him?" and "this is horrifying. Shame on him."

FOX 32 tracked the driver down and knocked on his door but there was no answer. The man is a pilot for NetJets. NetJets issued a statement saying they’re taking this matter seriously and looking into it immediately.

As for the school, they sent another letter to parents, saying they support students’ right to express themselves over their frustration and plan to have a school-wide conversation about it.
