Flannery Fired Up: Ives, Sanguinetti square off in 6th District; Sheila O'Brien

The July 26, 2019 edition of Flannery Fired Up focuses on one of next year's hottest congressional contests. Two women are vying for the Republican nomination to face freshman Democratic Rep. Sean Casten. He flipped the longtime Republican-held sixth congressional district in 2018 by defeating veteran Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Illinois.)

Former State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) and former Lieutenant Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti vowed to reverse the forces they say have eroded Republican power in the western suburbs. Ives said, "You've had a demographic shift. Republicans nationally were not able to answer the questions on pre-existing conditions! People who truly got a tax cut didn't believe it! The election in 2020 is really whether or not you recognize America, Americans are free people!"

Sanguinetti said, "The ultimate goal for me is not Jeanne. The ultimate goal for me is to beat Sean Casten, which is the whole reason I'm running. … you know, I'm really proud about my record as lieutenant governor and the things we did."

Also joining us, retired Illinois appellate court Judge Sheila O'Brien. She won a special prosecutor in that messy Jussie Smollett case, though one has not yet been appointed.
